Mechanical Wonders: The Sandoz Collection, A La Vieille Russie, New York, New York
4274 provided exhibition design for this 700-square-foot installation
of over 75 early 19th-century gold and enamel automaton snuff boxes, watches, magicians, and animals, as well
as the Imperial Swan Egg of 1906 and the Imperial Peacock Egg of 1908 by Fabergé. The exhibition entry is marked by a
frosted panel textured with silver foil cut into a pattern found on one of the key artifacts. The project included the
design of 19 high-security cases and related components, lighting, and graphic systems.
4274 collaborated with a variety
of consultants, including mount-maker Alberto Barrera, fabric specialist Daniella Grow, and catalogue and graphic designer
Francis Timoney. Fabrication was by R.H. Guest Exhibits of Brooklyn. Opened 10.26.11. Closed 12.10.11.
